Charity match raises over £4,000
On Sunday a Rainworth XI came from 3-0 down at half time to draw 3-3 with a Church Warsop MW XI in a charity match for the Tony Nattriss Memorial Trophy.
Prior to his tragic recent death in a road accident, Tony – brother of former Rainworth player Glen - had received treatment in Nottingham City Hospital renal unit, and the match was arranged in his memory to raise funds for the unit.
A bumper crowd of 305 turned up to Kirklington Road to watch the match, in which both sides included a number of guest players.
Glen played 45 minutes for each side, and ironically finished up on the wrong side of a 3-0 scoreline in each half!
Some £600 was taken on the gate, and while the final figure is not yet known, it is understood that raffles and other events in the Miners’ Welfare Club after the match boosted the total amount raised for the unit to over £4,000.
Members of Tony’s family have expressed their thanks to both clubs for a wonderful event.
