Bridlington Town Promotion Worries

SCARBOROUGH Athletic's NCEL Premier title rivals Bridlington Town may pass up on the chance to make a move into the Unibond League.
Bridlington are currently vying for top spot with leaders Rainworth, but the Queensgate club do hold mixed opinions about making the step up.A total of eight clubs have applied for promotion, with the list being made up of Boro, Brid, Pickering, Rainworth, Liversedge, Long Eaton, Selby and Thackley.Chairman Pete Smurthwaite said: "I have been asked about the clubs plans for the future and can confirm we have applied for promotion to the UniBond League should we be eligible by our final league position."Myself, the management and players and, I would presume, some of the fans have mixed views with regards to promotion and I know not everybody wants it."The biggest problem is the travelling which is highlighted by the fact our nearest derby game would be against Harrogate Railway, 80 miles away, we would not even be in the same league as Goole AFC or Brigg Town."Most people have said how much they have enjoyed the last two seasons back in the Northern Counties East League with the trips to Pickering, Hall Road Rangers, Winterton and Selby and this season's games against Scarborough Athletic."At the end of the day we have to be realistic with the club's aims and ambitions and keep our heads above water financially to prevent the errors of the recent past."
