Reserves drop first points in 1-1 draw
Russell Lovett, 12 September 2009
Strong side draw with local rivals Shirebrook.
This was a very scrappy game that produced little incident, and although on the day Rainworth were marginally the better overall a draw was a fair result.
Mark Cooper pulled off a great save in the first half to keep the two sides level at half time.
Apart from that, all the notable action was in the second half, with Nathan Lovett hitting the bar before Brendan Sweeney marked his return from injury by sweeping home from a corner, shortly before being replaced by Christian Zepp.
Rainworth had strong penalty claims turned down before James Whiteheaad preserved the lead with a goal line clearance.
The visitors appeared to be cruising to a routine victory until keeper Mark Cooper’s hesitation led to a late equaliser.
Sam Goodson again had a good game, acting as captain in the absence of central defenders Danny Wright and the suspended Luke Thomas.
RAINWORTH:
Cooper, Drake, Briggs, Bainbrdige, Whitehead, Houldsworth, Sweeney, Goodson, J. Lovett, D. Seagrave, N. Lovett. Subs: G. Seagrave, Murray, Zepp
